The Oceanographic Science Center Mindelo is an industrial building/research center project on the Island Sao Vicente (Cape Verde). It is jointly commissioned by the german Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research (GEOMAR) and the National Institute for Fisheries Development (INDP) and thus is one of my intercultural projects.

 

I am working on that project since 2013. Currently it is still under construction. The following video, however, can already give you a good impression to the final result:

Challenges

During the planning phases it was particularly challenging to accommodate the desired functions (workshop, laboratories and offices) in a compact design. Furthermore, the sustainability and the use of natural resources (e. g. for ventilation and energy recovery) was in focus.
